March 30 to April1, 2025

the 1st edition jury

A jury of eight personalities (documentary professionals and athletes) will select the winners of the first Deauville Sport Doc Festival, chaired by Stéphane Meunier.

jury president Stephane meunier

Stéphane Meunier, president

Stéphane Meunier marked a turning point in the world of sports documentaries when he plunged his camera into the intimacy of the French national team in 1998. "Les Yeux dans les Bleus" won a 7 d'or for best documentary.
His career as a journalist and filmmaker, however, does not end with this master stroke, which will live long in the memory of the French.

He first worked as an image reporter for several news magazines (24 heures on Canal Plus, La Marche du Siècle and Envoyé Spécial on France 2, Le Droit de Savoir on TF1, Zone Interdite and Capital on M6), covering geopolitical issues (the war in Lebanon, major labor strikes in Poland, the Iran/Iraq conflict, the Western Sahara conflict, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the collapse of the Soviet bloc, the Gulf War, the Bosnian War...).

All the themes addressed by the Deauville Sport Doc Festival are at the heart of Paris 2024. Whether in terms of eco-responsibility, sustainable development, inclusion, diversity, parity or education, and actively preparing a lasting legacy for French sport. So it was an obvious choice to be at your side for this 1st edition.

I'm delighted and proud to be working alongside the jury and its president Stéphane Meunier, the ultimate authority on immersive sports documentaries. As a documentary and fiction filmmaker, I'm looking forward to discovering these films that tell the inspiring, impactful and unifying story of sport, and of humanly invested characters, in varied and unprecedented sporting universes.

I was honored to accept the invitation to join the Deauville Sport Doc Festival because I strongly believe in the power of this genre, which continues to evolve and tell the profound story of sport. Given the richness of the sporting calendar, 2024 will be an even richer year for incredible documentaries.

I've been waiting for the Festival because I'm convinced of the power of sport to accelerate gender equality, women's emancipation and peace.
We're going to celebrate the work of directors and producers by revealing, promoting and encouraging their work.
Through their inspired eyes, we'll be able to realize that sport is universal and a mirror of our society.

I've always wanted to reward young, up-and-coming talent who haven't necessarily had the chance to be discovered. If we succeed, we'll have partly succeeded in our mission.

Deauville Sport Doc Festival is a first in a genre that's on the rise, and I'm interested in helping to reward inspiring life stories. Sport has become a way of life, and an unlimited source of stories and passions that transport us as much as they enlighten us about current societal challenges.

OLIVIER GIRAULT
OLIVIER GIRAULT

UNSS Director

Sport is a big part of my life, and it's exciting to be able to look at our disciplines from a different angle, and to showcase the stories of champions that go beyond their achievements. We have the potential to reach all audiences, not just sports fans. I got involved because I see the documentary as a way of inspiring young people to choose and practice "their" sport.
