With more and more sports being covered by the media every day, and with the notion of a "good image" becoming omnipresent in our society, top-level athletes are no exception to the now almost established rule of the sanitization of words and ideas.
Fortunately, directors and producers are not content with this veneer, digging to the heart of what makes sport so strong.
But how do you translate the unspeakable, how do you illustrate the feelings, fears and doubts of sportsmen and women who have spent their entire careers preparing to overcome and often conceal them?
One solution is to seek out the humanity of one athlete through another.
Even if they don't know each other, they understand each other, because they share the same DNA: a taste for effort, competition, surpassing oneself and self-sacrifice.
To understand a top-level athlete, it's just as important to know everything that precedes and follows the 9'' of a 100m race or the 2×45' of a soccer match.
To understand an iceberg, you need to know what's underneath it, and who better than another athlete to plunge into troubled waters and plumb the depths of a sportsman's soul.
What's different about a meeting between two sportsmen and women on screen?
And do you have to be a sportsman yourself to capture the intimate spirit of a sportsman?
